Finetic Media Server
Private source media server with Docker deployment, detailed playback diagnostics, Jellyfin migration, hardware transcoding, guest sharing, backups, and web and Fire TV clients
Quick Start
curl -fsSLO https://youngstudio.uk/downloads/install-finetic-docker.sh && less install-finetic-docker.sh && bash install-finetic-docker.sh Overview
Finetic Media Server turns movies and television stored on your own hardware into a polished living room streaming service, while giving administrators a detailed view of playback and server behaviour. It runs through a maintained Docker Compose stack on Linux x64 and Arm64, supports Intel, AMD and Nvidia acceleration, and mounts media as read only by default. The web client is included, while a Fire TV app is available through Amazon.
Finetic pays close attention to operational visibility. Playback plans explain whether a session uses Direct Play, remuxing, audio conversion or video transcoding, with diagnostics covering codecs, bitrate, HDR, bandwidth and failures. You also get analytics, scoped guest sharing, backup and recovery tools, plus guided Jellyfin migration that leaves the original media untouched.
The current preview is free with no expiry, account, card or activation check. An installed release continues working locally if Finetic services become unavailable, while updates remain optional and container images are pinned to immutable digests.
The important limitation is that the server remains private source compiled software. Public Compose files, documentation, component inventories, vulnerability scans and first party security checks provide useful transparency, but there is no independent security audit or established body of user reviews yet. Finetic suits self hosters prepared to evaluate an early release, retain backups and begin with local access while it develops an independent track record.
